My Love For Trifles Began by Accident

My LOVE of trifles began…

when I started layering a dessert one day in tall dessert glasses.  I thought…why not do all this in a trifle bowl?!  I didn’t own a trifle bowl at the time, so made that a priority purchase and as they say… the rest is history!

Connie’s Trifles (don’t get confused with Connie’s Truffles! LOL) became a fave at brunches, parties and holiday get togethers.

I recently had the pleasure of having dear friends join me in the Truffle House.  Kristin filmed while Kelly, Caroline Mebane and I made my brownie trifle creation!

We had such a good time! Scroll past the recipe for our video.   I’m so thankful for this opportunity to make delicious desserts with special friends.

CONNIE’S  G/F BROWNIE TRIFLE  CREATION

INGREDIENTS:

  • Connie’s G/F Brownies (recipe here)
  • Connie’s G/F Cream Cheese Brownies

Connie’s Fudge Sauce:

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • ½ cup whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 3 tbsps. butter

In 1 quart saucepan, cook over medium heat until mixture is smooth and boils, set aside.

If you love Connie’s Caramel Sauce, use it in the Brownie Trifle in addition to the fudge and cream cheese. It’s also great for a drizzle on the top.

Connie’s Cream Cheese filling:

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 ½ cups whipping cream, divided

Beat cheese, sugar and ½ cup whipping cream at medium speed with electric mixture until creamy.

Beat remaining 2 cups whipping cream (sweetened with powdered sugar & vanilla) with mixer until soft peaks form.  Fold into cheese mixture.

Topping:

Beat 1 cup whipped cream with powdered sugar and vanilla. Cover top of trifle.  Decorate with pecans, chocolate shavings and raspberries if you like.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE TRIFLE:

  1. Prepare all the above trifle parts. You can save time by making as much ahead as possible.
  2. Make the whipped cream topping when ready to assemble the trifle.
  3. Cut brownies into small pieces. Line the bottom of the trifle dish with the brownies.
  4. Drizzle fudge sauce on top of the brownies.
  5. The next layer can be all kinds of sweet treats: Chopped white & dark chocolate, pecans, raspberries, etc.
  6. After the sweet treats, spread a layer of Connie’s Cheese Filling.
  7. Time to start the layers again, starting with the brownies, fudge sauce, sweet treats & cheese filling
  8. Continue till you reach a couple of inches from the top of the Trifle Dish.
  9. The final layer can end with the sweet treats.
  10. Spread the Whipped Cream Topping on top of the last layer.
  11. How to garnish the top is up to you!   Raspberries make a beautiful presentation.   Drizzle with chocolate sauce.
  12. Shaved dark & white chocolate & chopped pecans will make it picture perfect.
